Black-Crowned Night Herons are the most widespread heron in the world and one of two night herons in North America. They are stocky and appear somewhat hunch backed. They have red eyes which are quite striking against their black, white and gray plumage. This one made its home at Lake Merritt in Oakland California.

I use my own photographs as reference images for my subjects.
