Great-tailed Grackles are large blackbirds. The males are iridescent black and the females are a beautiful rich brown. They can be found in Mexico and southern parts of California as well as the Midwest of the United States.

I use my own photographs as reference images for my subjects. This female was with a large flock of blackbirds one rainy morning at the Vic Fazio Wildlife Area along the Yolo causeway in West Sacramento.
